Happy Yorkshire Day everyone!
Yorkshire Day is basically a day which promotes the beautiful county of Yorkshire and its history. To celebrate, we decided we would have a stroll up to Bolton Castle, starting in the little picturesque village of Redmire.
Redmire is a sweet, quiet little village that offers both a post office and a pub, 'The Bolton Arms', which would make a lovely accommodation for those who are visiting our beautiful county.
Just a short walk up the village and under an old railway bridge, we turned left and enjoyed a stroll over fields with amazing views of the countryside. We found ourselves in Castle Bolton, again a lovely little village with the gorgeous Bolton Castle overlooking it. I think these North Yorkshire villages seem to come alive in the summer, with gardens blooming over their rickety stone walls and the locals happy to greet you as you walk by.
If you are ever visiting Bolton Castle, or any villages in North Yorkshire, I highly recommend bringing a picnic and enjoy being outside with the gorgeous summer air, as we did. We found ourselves sitting on the field directly next to the castle, so we had an amazing panoramic view or the castle, the village, and the surrounding countryside.
For a little admission fee you can go and explore inside the castle ruins and visit the beautiful castle garden too.
After our picnic we headed to Redmire Force, a waterfall on the River Ure, which is just a short walk down from the more famous Aysgarth Falls but still just as lovely. There is plenty of room to relax by the river on the grass banking with views of the castle in the distance, and it is only a short walk from Redmire Village so it is easily accessible.
If you have visited Wensleydale and it's wonderful villages I'd love to know what you think and if you have any suggestions on where I should go next!
